In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and after careful consideration, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development has decided to postpone the 14th edition of the European Development Days scheduled for 9 and 10 June 2020.

The next edition of the European Development Days will take place on 15 and 16 June 2021 in Brussels.

  • 1. Why is the conference being postponed?

    Following the measures approved by the Belgian government to halt the spread of the coronavirus, the EDD organisers are taking all necessary precautionary measures to safeguard the health of everyone involved.

    Given the actions of physical distancing and the travel restrictions imposed around the world, the postponement aims to ensure that the next edition of the EDD has a high level of attendance and a programme of the highest quality, in the interest of both the organisers and the attendees.

  • 2. What is the impact of the postponement on the programme of the European Development Days?

    We reaffirm our commitment to the EU’s Green Deal and aim to maintain the theme ‘The Green Deal for a Sustainable Future’.The ongoing programme evaluation process will be concluded and we aim to communicate the results to stakeholders in the coming weeks. The European Commission invites all partners to continue their strong engagement with the event and will work towards ensuring an even greater level of participation in June 2021.

  • 3. When will the EDD 2021 Programme be published?

    The programme will be published in 2021.

  • 4. What is the status of my proposal?

    You should have been notified of the status of your proposal(s) by 22 May 2020. If this is not the case, please send an email to EuropeAid-EDD2020@ec.europa.eu.

  • 5. If I am informed that my session/stand/exhibition proposal has been selected, what are the next steps?

    If your proposal has been selected, we will ask you to re-confirm early 2021 that you agree to organise the session in June 2021. A timeline concerning the next steps will be made available as soon as possible. You will be informed in due course.

  • 6. I have received an email stating that my stand/exhibition proposal is on hold. What does that mean?

    The venue map for EDD 2021 will be finalized early next year. We will then contact all stand/exhibition organisers to let them know if their proposal can be accommodated.

  • 7. When will I be able to access my session/stand/exhibition page and make changes to my proposal?

    You will be able to make changes to your page in early 2021.

  • 8. When should I submit the carbon offset certificate?

    You will be required to submit your carbon offset certificate at a later stage.

  • 9. What would happen if my organisation has to withdraw their session/stand/exhibition from EDD later on this year or next year?

    If your organisation cannot organise their session any longer, please inform us at EuropeAid-EDD2020@ec.europa.eu.

  • 10. When will the Second Community Meetings be held?

    The Second Community Meetings will be held in 2021.

  • 11. Our session has been accepted. Can I communicate that my organisation has been selected?

    The programme is currently tentative. You will be asked to reconfirm your intention to organise the session in 2021 after which we will publish the final programme.

  • 12. I applied for the Young Leaders Programme, but I will be 27 years old before 15 June 2021. Will my application be discarded?

    No, your application will not be discarded. All applicants eligible for the 2020 edition remain eligible for the 2021 edition.

  • 13. Will there be an additional call for applications for the Young Leaders Programme 2021?

    A new call for applications will not be launched in 2021.

  • 14. I have already arranged travel and booked a hotel for EDD 2020. Who will cover those costs now?

    The European Development Days do not cover travel and accommodation costs for the event participants. Therefore, the organisers are unfortunately unable to provide compensation.

  • 15. When will registrations for the EDD 2021 open?

    Registrations for the EDD 2021 will open in 2021.

  • 16. I am interested in covering the event theme this year already. How can I secure interviews outside of the forum?

  • 18. My outlet was a media partner in previous editions. Will the partnerships be renewed in 2021?

    Media partnerships will remain an essential element of European Development Days. Over the next few months, we will work to solidify media partnership plans and will be in communication with you about any collaboration.
